14 Photos That Will Inspire You to Visit Mostar
The city of Mostar is located in the Eastern European country of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I had never even heard of it until I reached Croatia, and started seeing the famous Stari Most bridge advertised on posters for day tours. The mountainous background, the river, the bridge itself- the photos sold the destination well and I was instantly determined to go. While most people make a day trip out of it, the cheap price of accommodation was enough to convince me to stay for a whole week. An entire Airbnb apartment for $31/night? Yes, please. What I didn’t know about Mostar until I got there was just how much the city had been through. Most places I’ve visited that have seen war have erased most if not all traces of it. Those wars also weren’t fought during my lifetime. The war in Bosnia started in 1992 when I was probably eating Apple Jacks and watching morning cartoons. The abandoned buildings and destruction are still very visible, and that famous Stari Most bridge was completely destroyed and rebuilt. Learning about the country’s history was both fascinating and extremely humbling.
One photo of Mostar was enough to alter my travel plans, and that was only skimming the surface of what the city had to offer. I’ve included 14 of my favorite shots from the city itself and nearby attractions in the hopes that maybe you’ll see the same beauty that I did, and give this amazing place a spot on your travel bucket list.
