Looking for THAT Florence Airbnb with the amazing window and stunning Duomo views? Well, congratulations because you have found it!
is this real life?
Last fall I received a message on Instagram from Danella, the inspirational and very talented owner of Window to the Duomo, about a content collaboration. I thought about it for all of 0.2 seconds before I rerouted my travel plans to include Florence. I’d already seen her world famous window on the ‘gram and decided there was no way I was letting this opportunity pass me by. A reason to return to one of my favorite Italian cities and witness this epic view for myself? Yes, please.
It’s a whole year later and I still dream of going back, so allow me to flood you with aesthetically pleasing photos, tell you a thing or two about the Airbnb, and if you’re not intent on going to Florence by the end I’ll be shocked. In fact, it’d be a mistake not to snag this place right this very second. I’ll give you the booking like here, but be sure to scroll down and hear me out! This place is more than just an Airbnb, after all.
The Space
The first thing you need to know about this incredible space is that it’s a studio apartment for ONE. Danella has a strict policy that only allows solo travelers to stay in the studio. As someone that frequently travels solo, I really appreciated the kind of experience that this facilitated. Countless times along my journey I’ve felt like travel is tailored for two, but finally, I could enjoy a dreamy rental created exclusively for travelers like me.
(If I’ve already disappointed you, fear not. She also has a penthouse Airbnb in the same building that sleeps 4. It will be open again in Spring 2021!)
So yes, as a space designated for one, it’s quite small- BUT in the most charming and efficient way possible! When you enter the studio, you’re already in your bedroom, and the first thing you’ll notice is the magnificent 11 foot window boasting an unparalleled view of the Duomo. There’s a single bed (and a mighty comfy one at that) on your left and a chic white sofa on your right.
Carry on through the doorway on your left and you’ll enter the artist’s studio- a nook that is decorated with the most wonderful array of objects, tools, books and knick knacks. It’s rustic and chaotic and perfect. Don’t worry, I took PLENTY of photos for evidence:
When you’re finished adoring all of the fun things that make up the artist’s workspace, you’ll notice the cozy kitchen. And we all know what cozy means in real estate terms- but if you’re not out eating all of the pizza, pasta, and gelato that Florence has to offer then I don’t know what you’re doing in Italy at all. Not to mention there’s no stove, so you won’t be cooking anyways. Consider this a blessing. Drink the wine Danella has left out for you and go hit the town!
There’s also a second window in this area with an equally impressive view of the Duomo. Plan your day with the help of the Lonely Planet guide book, and as hard as it will be, force yourself to leave the studio. It won’t be easy, but again, all of that delicious food helps.
More Than an Airbnb
Words will never be able to express how Window to the Duomo made me feel. Staying here gave me so much joy. The building itself is from the 1600s- which is probably older than any building you’ve ever slept in before- and to be in the heart of Florence waking up to the Duomo and watching the world go by below is surreal. Everything about my stay felt magical and inspiring. And speaking of inspiring- you’ll likely find some charcoal pencils and drawing paper on the desk that you’re free to use. I couldn’t tell you the last time I drew something, but in that studio I found myself wanting to draw the window I’d gone so far out of my way to see. From the comfort of my cozy bed, wrapped up in a soft blanket, I did just that.
The Views
Both of the photos below were shot from the studio. Make use of the window seat and soak these views in- you’ll never see anything like them again! At night, keep your ears open for live music in the piazza below, and people watch to your heart’s content.
Your Host
I’ve mentioned Danella a few times throughout this post, but let it be known that she is an amazing human. We became very fast friends, and I was so impressed with her story and the space that she created. She found Window to the Duomo on Craigslist of all places- it was a storage closet before she got her hands on it and transformed it into the piece of art that it is today!
Do not hesitate to stay here. In fact, if you’re a solo traveler and you want to experience Florence in the most amazing way possible, go completely out of your way to stay here. Even if it’s just for one night, you will not regret it.
