World-famous shopping, mouth-watering food, ample opportunities for sightseeing, and an air of sophistication and romance are just a few of the things that may come to mind when thinking about Milan. Having visited three times myself, I can confidently say it is a worthwhile stop on any trip to Italy. There is one thing, however, that made my third trip better than all the rest: a romantic two-night stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Milano with my boyfriend.
The building itself is a former convent from the 15th century that has been beautifully restored. Frescoes, columns, and vaulted ceilings are just a few of the historical features that make this hotel really standout. The cloistered and landscaped courtyard begs for a stroll, and in the lobby you’ll find a beautiful 18th century fireplace. If you’re lucky enough to visit around the holidays, the hotel becomes a festive spectacle with dazzling decorations that’ll have you whipping out a camera immediately. We visited in early December and it was the perfect time to soak up the Christmas spirit and enjoy the hotel when it is arguably the most beautiful.
Our room was, and I do not exaggerate, astonishing. With an original stucco ceiling dating from the Renaissance, it felt like sleeping in our very own museum. At 90 m2, to call it spacious would be an understatement, and the windows opened up to a view of the perfectly manicured courtyard. A large television, two couches, and a wooden canopy bed made leaving the room really difficult (we managed, eventually) and the marble bathroom with its heated floors, soaking tub, and walk-in shower was beyond luxurious. Did I mention the giant walk-in closet? Yeah, there was one of those too. And as if all of these comforts weren’t enough, the level of service was unparalleled. The staff were extremely attentive and kind, and the evening turn-down service was such a treat.
If you’re interested in booking the particular room that we stayed in, you’ll want to see if the Renaissance Suite is available for your dates.
If and when you do make it out of your impossibly comfortable bed, the hotel’s location is ideal. Set in the heart of the Fashion District, you’ll find yourself a12 minute walk away from the Duomo, and 9 minutes from the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. There are an abundance of high-end stores only a stone’s throw away (hello, Cartier!) and many great restaurants to choose from as well.
Should you prefer to eat at the hotel, there is in-room dining available and an onsite restaurant serving gourmet Italian called Zelo. Fancy a cocktail? Head down to Stilla bar right off of the lobby. (It’s pretty picture-perfect too!)
Last but certainly not least, one of our favorite areas in the hotel was the spa. In particular, the 14-meter pool set beneath a gorgeous vaulted ceiling. With low lighting and the feeling that you’ve found an underground treasure, it’s a really special spot to relax and wind down after a busy day. There are even private spa suites to reserve, and a gorgeous sauna to enjoy.
